Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Order and pay
What payment options are available in the shop?
You have the option of paying by SEPA transfer, instant transfer, PayPal or credit card.
When paying by SEPA transfer, the order will be shipped after receipt of the full invoice amount. Please only enter the identification number that you received in the email with the payment information as the intended purpose. Depending on the bank, a transfer can take 1 - 3 working days; if there is a weekend in between, the time will be extended accordingly. We ask you to take this into account.
When paying by credit card, Visa and MasterCard as well as Sofortüberweisung, you will be redirected to the input mask of our payment provider Unzer Payment GmbH via a secure connection during the ordering process.
When paying with PayPal, you will be redirected directly to PayPal at the end of the ordering process. If you are already a PayPal customer, you can make the payment quickly and securely after logging into your PayPal account. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can log in as a guest or open a PayPal account and then confirm the payment.
If you select the PayPal Express payment method, you will be redirected before completing the order and pay the invoice amount via the online payment provider PayPal. You do not need to enter the billing and delivery address as this information is taken directly from your PayPal account. To do this, you must have a PayPal account or register with PayPal. After logging in, you can make the payment quickly and securely in accordance with PayPal's terms and conditions. If you have any questions, please find out more at www.paypal.de
Please note that due to agreements you have made with credit institutions or other institutions, you may incur additional costs for transfers, account management, etc.
Further information on the exact payment processing can be found in our General Terms and Conditions under point 8. Payment conditions .
How exactly can I order?
The ordering process in our online shop comprises four steps:
1) You place the desired items in the virtual shopping cart.
2) You enter your required customer data including billing address and, if applicable, different delivery address. Alternatively, you can log into your customer account using your email address and one-time code.
3) You select the desired payment method.
4) You have the opportunity to check all the information (ordered items, quantities, sizes, name, address, payment method) again before you submit and send us your binding offer to purchase the items in your shopping cart by clicking on the "Buy now" button. Before submitting the order, you can edit the items in your shopping cart at any time, view and change your address and selected payment method.
After submitting your order, you will receive an email from us with a summary of your order.
Happy shopping.
What size do I need?
To make it easier for you to choose the right size, we have indicated the size of the photo model and the measurements of the size the model is wearing for each item. If the cut has any special features, we will also indicate this in the item description. There is also the LANIUS size chart, which we use to design our collection. Care tips
Why is it important that I take proper care of my clothes?
Our qualities, cuts and the functionality of our clothing are designed to last. We want to give you helpful tips to help you enjoy your favorite LANIUS item for even longer: It is made to be worn, cleaned, loved and, if necessary, repaired. With good care, you extend the life of your clothing and thus help protect our resources and our environment.
How do I care for my clothes properly?
In general, please follow the care instructions on the item.
In general, we can say that low temperatures, reduced spin speeds and a washing bag for wool and silk are highly recommended. In addition, it is best to wash your clothes together with similar colors and always turn them inside out - this way you can not only avoid unpleasant discoloration, but also prevent color changes and abrasion. Close buttons and zippers to prevent damage during washing. Another tip: use bleach-free mild detergents, as these do not contain any bleach that could damage your clothes.
VENTILATE
A care tip that is very easy to implement: Not every piece of clothing that is worn needs to be washed immediately. Airing not only saves time and water, but also protects the environment and materials.
STORAGE
Avoid hanging knitted items as they can lose their knitted shape. After washing, dry knitted items lying flat (for example on a clean towel) and gently pull them into shape. Knitted items simply need a little time to dry.
IRON
Ironing will bring your favorite items back into shape and smooth out the fibers of the fabrics that have become rough during the washing process. But first check whether the material can be ironed and always stick to the temperature. For special natural fibers such as silk, but also for natural fibers such as elastane, TencelTM and ECOVEROTM, we also recommend placing a damp cloth over the item of clothing to be ironed. Pro tip: Invest in a good ironing pad, as the metal mesh on cheap ironing boards can show through.
PILLING
Small balls can appear on favorite items made of natural fibers such as wool. This phenomenon, known in English as "pilling," is completely natural and is simply caused by friction on the surface. This is essentially a sign of the naturalness of the material.
Conventionally, this is counteracted with a synthetic resin finish. A layer is applied that seals the hairs and prevents them from matting so easily. However, this also seals and limits many of the natural properties such as breathability and softness under the layer. We mostly use wool from controlled organic cultivation and consciously avoid such chemical finishes, as this naturalness is a quality feature for us.
To remove the pilling knots, you can use a lint shaver, a wool comb or fine scissors. But be careful: if the knots are torn off, the fiber can be damaged. Another tip: If your favorite items have fine, long hair, you can brush it up from time to time.
SPECIAL DETERGENT
Fine favorite items made of wool, silk, linen or cotton that are washed at a low temperature or even by hand feel particularly comfortable with a special liquid detergent. It dissolves better and is therefore gentler on the fibers without affecting the washing performance.
SMALL REPAIRS
A certain amount of wear and tear, such as a button coming off or a stitch coming undone, is completely normal when clothes are worn and washed frequently. There are very good instructions online that explain step by step how to sew buttons back on or darn holes, for example. Of course, we are also happy to help you with any questions you may have about repairing your favorite item.
CARE SYMBOLS
The number of care symbols is almost as extensive as the number of road signs. So that you know exactly what care your favorite item needs in the future, we have summarized the meanings of all symbols HERE . We recommend that you follow the care instructions exactly - a small difference can have a big impact.
How do I care for cotton?
Cotton is absorbent, tear-resistant, skin-friendly, durable and comfortable to wear.
* Wash dark and coloured textiles separately at max. 30 °C
* Wash special fibre blends only in the gentle programme (delicate wash)
* Iron at moderate heat (max. 150 °C)
How do I care for wool?
Wool is less susceptible to dirt and odors, repels sweat, is antistatic and hardly wrinkles.
* Carefully dab small stains with a damp cloth (pro tip: never rub!)
* Take breaks between wearing and air regularly
* Hand wash, wool wash cycle may be preferable to manual hand washing (only possible to a limited extent, check label; do not leave in the machine for long periods when damp and warm). Then squeeze out in a terry cloth towel
* Only wash with the wool detergent provided (particularly gentle on the fiber)
* Store lying down and dry
* Remove knots with a wool shaver or wool comb
* Use natural moth protection (cedar wood, lavender, cade oil)
* Heavily soiled favourite items can be professionally dry cleaned
How do I care for TENCEL?
Tencel wicks away moisture excellently and has similar wearing properties to cotton.
* Wash at max. 30 °C and only use special color and delicate detergent without bleach (reduce spin speed, low temperature)
* Wash inside out (even with printed garments)
* Tencel does not have as high color fastness as cotton and is sensitive to light (do not dry in the sun)
* Iron into shape (follow care instructions)
How do I care for leather?
Leather is relatively waterproof and yet breathable, particularly dense and stretchy.
* Remove coarse dirt with a soft leather brush or a damp cloth (be very careful as this can cause irreparable damage; please never rub or scratch)
* Treat leather with an ecological impregnating agent specially developed for the type of leather before first use
* Every type of leather is different and requires appropriate care
* Bring heavily soiled favourite items for professional, gentle dry cleaning
How do I care for silk?
Silk has a special shine, is fine and smooth, and feels light on the skin. It is very comfortable to wear and is also absorbent and insulating.
* Hand wash at low temperature
* Wash inside out with a mild silk detergent, making gentle movements in the soapy water
* Wash inside out at low temperature and iron while still slightly damp (pro tip: place a cotton cloth underneath)
* Can be easily ironed using a steamer
* In case of severe soiling, please have the product professionally dry cleaned
How do I care for alpaca wool?
Alpaca wool is particularly dirt-resistant and breathable. It can be worn in summer and winter, is very suitable for allergy sufferers and is soft and shiny.
* Carefully dab small stains with a damp cloth (never rub)
* Take breaks between wearing, air
* Wool wash cycle in the washing machine only possible to a limited extent (note: label)
* Store lying down and dry
* Remove knots with a wool shaver or wool comb
* Use natural moth protection (cedar wood, lavender, cade oil)
* Bring heavily soiled favourite items for professional, gentle dry cleaning
How do I remove stains?
When it comes to stains, it is important to react immediately. For this reason, we have summarized the best tricks for you:
RED WINE
* Mineral water or tap water
* Apply salt (a lot) to the stain, brush gently once the salt has absorbed the liquid, and then wash
* For cashmere or silk: dry shampoo
* For dark shadows after treatment: use shaving foam. Then rinse and allow to dry.
COFFEE
* Mineral water or warm (!) water
* For dried stain: salt or baking powder * Gall soap can be used on light and very insensitive items
FAT
* First soak up grease with paper towels, then use plenty of hot water and detergent to wash out
* For old stains: Gall soap (in bar)
MAKE UP
* For light, white (or dark) and insensitive clothing: gall soap or baking powder
SWEAT
* Yellowish discoloration can be treated by soaking overnight in warm water with a dash of vinegar. After treatment, machine wash as normal.
What does residual shrinkage mean?
For the sake of the environment, we reduce the production steps to the bare minimum and consciously avoid additional equipment or unnecessary washing.
Some materials may therefore shrink a little after the first wash at home. This is indicated by the % information on the possible residual shrinkage in the care instructions online and on the care label for each item. The information always indicates the maximum possible residual shrinkage when following the care recommendations.
The cut and fit are designed so that shrinkage of up to 7% does not affect the size, but you should pay particular attention to this information if the item already fits very close to the body or is deliberately intended to fit loosely.
How do I keep the color of my clothes as long as possible?
In order to keep the color brilliance of your clothes for as long as possible, you should use special color and/or delicate detergents and wash at the lowest temperature and rotation speed possible. Colors wash out especially at high temperatures and when using "universal detergents," which usually contain bleach.

Viscose, Lyocell, Modal, TENCEL™, ECOVERO™ – what are they actually and what is the difference?
Viscose is a so-called regenerated cellulose fiber. The natural raw material cellulose, which is obtained from wood, is chemically spun into a fiber.
Lyocell and Modal are other regenerated cellulose fibers that are based on different and sometimes more environmentally friendly production processes.
TENCEL™ is the brand name of the lyocell and modal fibers from Lenzing AG in Austria, which has been working for decades on the most environmentally friendly manufacturing processes for regenerated cellulose fibers. This also includes the brand's viscose fiber, the so-called LENZING™ ECOVERO™, which is currently the "greenest" viscose on the market.

Why do we use spandex, polyester or nylon?
We place a lot of value on natural and high-quality materials. The use of chemical fibers seems to be a contradiction at first. However, it must be noted that these fibers can improve the comfort, durability and robustness of the clothing immensely in small quantities. For example, jeans that contain just 1% elastane are much more comfortable to wear and last longer. This is why we combine recycled elastane, polyester and nylon with our natural qualities wherever it makes sense.

Why isn’t everything “certified/GOTS/organic”?
The answer to this lies in the diversity of our production facilities and the materials that are processed. Sometimes it is just a button that is not certified, but the fabrics and production are. Nevertheless, the entire textile production chain - from cultivation to the product - must be certified: if only one part, such as the button, does not meet the criteria, the entire product does not receive a GOTS certificate.
In addition, GOTS certification is very costly. For some smaller production facilities, it is simply too expensive to get certified because customer demand is unfortunately still too low. We support all of our suppliers in getting GOTS certified so that we can secure as many production steps as possible.
Furthermore, GOTS only certifies natural fibers, so products such as TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers and Modal fibers are unfortunately not GOTS certifiable and are not allowed to carry the seal. However, we manufacture clothing from these sustainable materials in production facilities that are GOTS certified.
Basically, each of our pieces is manufactured consciously. To make it more transparent for you which items in our collection are certified according to which criteria, we have developed icons that decode the entire textile value chain and serve as a guide for you. But why isn't everything "organic"? We have to say that the proportion of certified organic materials on the global market is still very small due to low demand. We are working to change this, raising awareness, and looking for partners who will support us in our vision so that we can offer our entire collection in certified organic quality in the future.
Why does LANIUS also produce in China and not just in Europe?
LANIUS has been producing in China for over twelve years - exclusively in selected companies for whom the love of sustainability and craftsmanship under fair conditions is just as important as it is to us. The label "Made in China" has negative connotations and we would like to show that this prejudice cannot be applied across the board to an entire country with all its production facilities - because: There are good and less good production facilities all over the world.
We visit our partner companies personally and in many cases we can look back on decades of good cooperation. The companies are selected based on our sustainability guidelines and high quality standards as well as the fundamental vision of natural, sustainable materials and social and fair remuneration.
Another important aspect is environmental protection and value creation: We aim to source the materials from the countries where they originally come from and to process them there. For example, the raw materials we use, hemp and silk.

Why does LANIUS produce leather shoes? To what extent is the production of the shoes sustainable?
Sustainable shoe styles have been part of the LANIUS collection for several years. We have found a reliable production partner in the family business WERNER, which has been producing sustainable shoes for 100 years.
We are convinced that leather is a natural, high-quality material. The leather for our shoes is vegetable-tanned in Germany using chrome-free processes, the shoes are produced under fair conditions exclusively in Europe and all raw materials come from Germany or neighboring European countries. This keeps transport routes short and protects the environment.

Why do we still pack some of our collection in plastic bags?
Currently, 76% are packaged in recycled plastic and 24% in paper. Unfortunately, not packaging a piece of clothing at all is not a logistical option, as it needs to be protected and in new condition when it reaches the customer.
From the delivery of our S/S-21 collection, we will only use plastic bags that are 100% recycled and can be recycled again if disposed of correctly. With this step, we are actively contributing to the circular economy and making an essential contribution to reducing the amount of plastic waste.
However, we continue to work constantly on alternatives and are not afraid to develop and try out new possibilities. With our #NOPLASTIC initiative, we have proactively joined forces with other sustainable fashion companies and organizations and have set ourselves the goal of eliminating virgin plastic as a packaging component.
What does GOTS mean?
We are GOTS certified, as are many of our products. The seal is awarded annually and GOTS-certified companies, like us, are subject to regular checks based on a dual control system - consisting of on-site inspections at the company and analyses of residues in the textiles. For a garment to receive the GOTS seal, it must consist of at least 70% natural fibres in organic/organic quality and meet comprehensive social and ecological criteria in its production.
Find out more about the social and ecological standards of the GOTS certificate here.
What does kbA/kbT mean?
In controlled organic farming (kbA) and controlled organic animal husbandry (kbT), the raw fibre, the material, was demonstrably produced under organic conditions that have been defined by the respective organic regulations and checked by external certification companies.
What exactly is the difference between organic cotton and conventional cotton?
There are some important differences between the cultivation of conventional and organic cotton. Three essential advantages of organic farming: efficient water management, no genetic engineering, no synthetic pesticides.
Thanks to efficient irrigation, growing organic cotton saves a lot of water. Genetically modified seeds are prohibited in organic farming, as is the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Instead, natural plant protection products such as humus and plant manure are used, which neither pollute the soil and groundwater nor endanger the health of the farmers.

Which dyes does LANIUS use?
When it comes to our dyeing, it always depends on the particular fiber. For example, it is relevant whether it is a fiber of plant origin, such as cotton or linen, or a fiber of animal origin, such as wool or silk.
We mainly use synthetic dyes because these dyes are long-lasting and color-stable. We generally follow the strict guidelines of the Global Organic Textile Standard - GOTS for short. Our clothing is also regularly checked by our quality assurance department. Tests for harmful substances are an essential part of our control - we do not consider any carcinogenic or harmful substances.
Our dyes are environmentally friendly, gentle on the skin and ideal for allergy sufferers. We have been working with natural dyes for a long time to dye in a particularly gentle way. The fabrics are dyed purely with dyes extracted from plants and flowers.

How does LANIUS ensure that socially acceptable working conditions are maintained during production and that employees are paid fairly?
We only work with companies that comply with our sustainability guidelines and take responsibility for their employees. This includes ensuring socially acceptable working conditions and paying fair wages.
We visit our production sites personally – both announced and unannounced – to see the working conditions on site. We also rely on external audits such as those carried out by GOTS to control sensitive information.
We do not work with so-called subcontractors – middlemen – whose business model consists of awarding contracts to unknown production partners who produce the goods for a fraction of the order volume – at the expense of the textile workers in the factories.
How do we transport the goods?
Our goods are always transported in the most sustainable way possible and the resulting CO₂ emissions will be fully offset from 2021 with the help of the climate experts at ClimatePartner.
We discuss orders with our suppliers transparently and at an early stage, because the more time we have, the more environmentally friendly we can ship our goods - by rail from China or climate-neutrally by truck from the EU or Turkey.
In absolutely exceptional cases, for example in the event of a major delay in production, we also have to ship individual product groups by plane.
Our customers receive our collection in a climate-neutral way through shipping with DHL GoGreen.
