Interesting facts about our sustainable knitwear

The natural materials organic cotton , organic virgin wool and alpaca wool are among the most popular knitwear qualities at LANIUS. We use cotton from controlled organic cultivation (kbA) . The use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and genetic engineering is avoided. Our organic cotton is particularly soft and at the same time durable. The result is sustainable knitwear that is a reliable companion in every season. It is comfortable, durable and helps to reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry. For each of our products and all company activities, CO₂ emissions are offset in order to compensate for the emissions generated.

New wool is a spinning fiber that is obtained from the soft fur of the sheep by shearing or combing it. We mainly use wool from controlled organic livestock farming (kbT) . This standard ensures that the animals are kept and fed in a species-appropriate manner and that no fattening aids or pesticides are used. Out of love for the animals, we use mulesing-free wool.

Mulesing is a widespread practice in Australia in which lambs are subjected to a painful procedure without anesthesia in order to prevent parasite infestation. Alpaca wool is also an excellent material that comes from alpacas. Alpacas are native to the high Andes. There they live in their original environment. Proper care of knitwear

In general, knitwear should be washed in cold water and on a gentle spin and dried flat. This procedure is essential because knitwear shrinks if washed too hot and on too high a spin, and can become overstretched and loose if hung to dry.

If you notice small balls on your knitted item, this is "pilling". This is a completely natural process that occurs due to the inevitable friction of the knitted item when it is worn.
