HEAVY METALS

During processing stages such as sizing, weaving, knitting, dyeing, or printing, textiles can come into contact with heavy metals. Copper, nickel, and chromium, for example, increase the lightfastness and washfastness of dyes and are used particularly in cotton and wool dyeing. Zinc salts are used for etching in cases of dye defects. The problem: Heavy metals are toxic, non-biodegradable, accumulate in the body, and can cause allergies as well as skin and respiratory diseases. In Germany, legal limits apply, and some substances, such as cadmium and mercury, are banned.

At LANIUS, heavy metal residues in the final product are regularly tested. We adhere to the strict limits of GOTS and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 – for an environmentally friendly and safe product.
