Fine, soft, silky fibers make Alpaca fashion particularly high quality and durable. The animals are sheared every two years and since there are only about four million alpacas worldwide, it is a very noble material. The alpaca fiber is particularly suitable for spinning and therefore has the best basic requirements for light, warm, durable clothing. The Fineness levels The wool of an alpaca ranges from “Royal Alpaca”, through “Baby Alpaca”, to coarser qualities. The quality comes from “ Baby Alpaca ” not from a young animal, but from the back of the alpacas and only accounts for about 20% of the total wool of an animal. The same is true for “Royal Alpaca” - this finest quality comes from the neck area of the alpaca and with a wool content of only about 2% it is extremely rare and a truly royal quality.
At LANIUS, we attach great importance to the welfare of the animals and have convinced ourselves in Peru that the alpacas live exactly as they like best: free – high up in the Andes, where they graze undisturbed on the mountains. In our Travel Journal Find out more about the trip.
