Fair Production
It's a long way from the initial idea for a new LANIUS garment to the final product, and many people are involved in this creative process. Here, we want to show you where we, as a label, produce our LANIUS pieces and who the people behind them are.
We believe that good collaboration is a key success factor for creating unique and high-quality textiles. Transparency is the central element of our sustainable DNA – it fosters understanding of the diversity of the textile value chain. Our slow fashion stands for a good feeling on the skin and a clear conscience.
We take responsibility and ensure fair and controlled production of our LANIUS textiles. Our production partners generally hold certificates that guarantee comprehensive social and ecological standards.
When selecting our partners, in addition to certifications, shared values play a decisive role for us. We regularly visit our partner companies to maintain personal contact and to get our own impression on site.
Since 2014, our woolen knitwear has been produced in Bulgaria and has recently even been GOTS certified. The factory has state-of-the-art machines for processing particularly fine yarn. We cannot imagine a better producer for our high-quality favorite sweaters.
For over 100 years, the Werner family business has been all about sustainable footwear. The factories in Romania are Fair Wear audited and the leather is vegetable-tanned. We are impressed and convinced by so much expertise: We are pleased to have gained Werner as a production partner for our sustainable footwear.
A startup with a rich heritage: Our partner company in Tuscany is part of a corporate group that has been manufacturing home textiles since 1958. Since 2020, the BSCI-certified company has been developing particularly luxurious scarves and textiles from Italian natural materials, which are processed on solar-powered weaving looms.
Our Italian family business for exclusive leather goods still has the whole family working together. At the beginning of our collaboration, we first introduced the owner, Corrado, to vegetable-tanned leather. Since 2015, he has been producing belts and accessories made from vegetable-tanned leather for us.
Our partner company in Italy was founded in 2019 and specializes in the production of cozy scarves and ponchos made from sustainable fibers. We are impressed by their commitment to rapid development towards even greater sustainability: The entire operation has been GOTS-certified since September 2021.
We are particularly proud of our fully integrated producer in Lithuania: It has been in existence since 1967, employs around 800 people, holds various certifications such as the GOTS certificate, STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, and is a member of the Greenpeace Detox Campaign.

In this Portuguese family business, the mother herself still inspects the finished garments. The company, with 120 employees and a modern machine park, has been GOTS certified since 2021. Their attention to detail and professionalism are reason enough for us to have our garments produced here since 2015.
State-of-the-art machinery meets a family atmosphere. We have been producing our garments in Portugal since 2015. The main reason for this is the passion for the product, which is reflected in every manufactured piece. Furthermore, the family business operates very flexibly and offers us a high degree of adaptability.
Our Portuguese partner company combines many years of experience with innovative textile manufacturing. Production is GOTS certified, STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, and audited by Sedex Members Ethical Trade, among others. The company specializes in processing particularly innovative materials and ensures the highest quality.
For over 16 years, we have enjoyed a friendly relationship with Ms. Fernanda. She lives and works near Porto and is responsible for several of our Portuguese production facilities. Her extensive knowledge of garment manufacturing has impressed us for years.
Our GOTS-certified production facility in Greece has been manufacturing our organic cotton tulle or Nicki velour collection since 2017. The company has been in operation since 1995 and employs around 24 people.
In our GOTS-certified production facility in Turkey, our knitwear is made from organic cotton. The company has been in operation since 1982 and employs around 100 people. Production has been managed for 35 years by the "Patron", as the owner is affectionately known.

Since 2007, jerseys and light, fine fabrics have been produced in the GOTS-certified facility in Turkey. The company, which has around 95 employees, undergoes regular audits as a member of the Fairwear Foundation, pursuing a clear goal: to improve working conditions in the textile industry.
In Turkey, we found a specialist for denims and special washes, employing a total of 350 people. Both the factory and the laundry are GOTS certified. We have been working with this reliable company since 2012. We are particularly impressed by their environmentally friendly production, their honesty, and their immense team spirit!
The family-owned company from Istanbul, established in 1983, specializes in producing high-quality socks for women, men, and babies. What makes them unique: their production facility is GOTS certified and uses only certified yarns for our products.
Our partner company in North Macedonia is a true specialist in the field of garment manufacturing. This family business, established in 1990, is amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) certified, works with great attention to detail, and has consistently impressed us with its expertise in garment manufacturing and its particularly detailed items.

From dyeing the yarn to producing our favorite alpaca wool sweaters: Our producer in Peru covers the entire value chain. What particularly pleases us: Social commitment and research work regarding alpacas and textile production in Peru are given high priority here.

In spring 2018, together with our partner in India, we handcrafted unique silk scarves from recycled saris and then processed them into dresses in Germany. In addition to fair trade and loving craftsmanship, ecological processing and CO₂-neutral logistics are also a top priority.
Our specialist from southern India focuses on cotton jersey with other sustainable materials such as hemp, linen, and LENZING TENCEL™. Furthermore, we are impressed by the supply chain processes, all of which take place under one roof: The fabric is knitted, dyed, printed, and the finished articles are sewn. In addition to GOTS certification, they are also SA8000 and OEKO TEX certified.
Our new partner company in India was founded in 2017 by a strong father-son duo and can look back on over 100 years of family tradition in cotton processing. The company currently employs 32 people and is GOTS, BSCI, and SEdex audited.
With the BLUE collection, Kunert launched the first sustainable hosiery collection in early 2017. The collection is made from ECONYL®, an innovative yarn consisting of 100 percent regenerated waste such as fishing nets and other nylon waste materials.
Jewelry production has a long tradition in Thailand and is by no means a product of globalization. Thailand has been known for centuries for the production of silver jewelry and provides many jobs – especially for women. The German jewelry label fejn works with selected RJC-certified manufacturers in Thailand. The certificate checks for responsible ethical, social, and ecological practices. The CO₂ emissions caused by the jewelry's journey are 100% offset by fejn.
The handmade ceramics from the "Lanius x onomao" cooperation collection are produced in northern Portugal, in the Porto region. The clay is a pure natural product, which is mined in the region where the manufacturer is located. As one of the oldest family-run businesses in the region, they also possess considerable expertise. The manufacturing process combines old and new techniques. onomao maintains a close collaboration with the ceramic manufacturer.
Our knitter from China is audited by the Fair Wear Foundation and is a true family business. The owner's parents work in the canteen and his aunt packages the finished products. Since 2016, he has been using state-of-the-art machines to produce fine fully fashioned knitwear for us.
Our operation in China is a German-Chinese joint venture: we have been working together since the company was founded in 2008. Production is GOTS-certified. As a particularly versatile specialist in sustainable materials, we greatly appreciate our cooperation with the company.
Since 2008, we have been working with our GOTS-certified facility in China. A friendship exists between Claudia Lanius and the owner of the company, Aichin. As a true pioneer in many respects, she has integrated anthroposophical ideas into her Chinese production. The proximity to the raw material and the excellent quality of the production site have convinced us during our personal visits for decades – together we prove that "Made in China" can also be done differently.
From supervising the goat herd to producing fine cashmere sweaters: our cashmere specialist in China handles all production steps in-house. Our partner company guarantees animal welfare through the Good Cashmere Standard, is GOTS and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified, and is a member of the Greenpeace Detox Campaign.
Our LANIUS shoes are produced by our knitter with over 60 years of experience. Equipped with the most modern machines, they knit our sneakers from natural materials such as TENCEL™ in summer and our shoes from certified organic virgin wool in winter.
LANIUS has been producing in China for over a decade – exclusively in selected factories that value a love for sustainability and craftsmanship under fair conditions as much as we do. We visit our partner factories in person, and in many cases, we look back on decades of successful collaboration. The selection of factories is based on our sustainability guidelines and high quality standards.
The "Made in China" label has negative connotations, but this prejudice cannot be generally applied to an entire country – good and less good production facilities exist worldwide.
