Formaldehyde is often found in plastics, textiles, leather, adhesives, cosmetics, paints, detergents and cleaning products. In Germany, around 600,000 tons of formaldehyde are produced every year. However, long-term contact can lead to allergic reactions. Formaldehyde is also carcinogenic to humans. Even small amounts can cause eye and mucous membrane irritation, breathing difficulties, nausea and headaches.
