Our timeless design
Christian Rühl has been head designer at Claudia Lanius' side since 2017 and is the first man in the entire LANIUS team. He is jointly responsible for the fashion direction of the collections and masters the seasonal challenges posed by our demands for good design and sustainability.
Christian, how do you integrate sustainability into the design process?
I want to create something that lasts and impresses with its fit, quality and workmanship. My main premise in design is that every item of clothing should become a favorite that can be integrated into the existing wardrobe. We consider sustainability in every step of production: In the design process of a new collection, we pay attention to a high proportion of renewable, natural fibers when selecting and sourcing the materials.
When sourcing the qualities, we keep the production chains as short as possible. For example, our Normandy linen, which we get from a regional cooperative in Normandy, is processed directly on site - so in addition to the advantages of the sustainable natural fiber, there are also short transport routes and correspondingly high emission savings. In the end, we have a great denim fabric that not only gives you a clear conscience, but also impresses with its quality.
Incidentally, most of our sustainable LANIUS qualities are developed especially for our collections under this premise. The material selection for each collection consists of already proven qualities that meet our requirements, as well as constant new developments that we work on all year round with our long-standing suppliers - and which are extensively tested in advance for their durability.
Aren’t the terms “fashion” and “sustainability” contradictory?
Fashion does not necessarily mean being loud and flashy, but rather combining colors and silhouettes in such a way that a feeling of modernity is created and the look underlines the current zeitgeist.
At the heart of our collections are reflected trends that we reinterpret season after season - always with an eye on the fact that we will see them on our LANIUS customers and that they will enjoy them for a long time. Our timeless silhouettes provide security, while detailed design makes each item of clothing something special that can last for a long time.
What sustainable styling tip would you like to give your customer?
“Less is more”: An existing wardrobe can always be restyled if it is refreshed with new, carefully selected silhouette and color combinations.
In addition: Proper care creates lasting joy. With our detailed "How to Care" program, we want to help you maintain LANIUS styles - and thus promise an even longer-lasting basic wardrobe made up of favorite pieces.
